Luiz Carlos da Silva was born in Buíque on May 15, 1972.
His first carved piece was an armadillo, of which he created several replicas. Shortly thereafter, he felt the desire to create works in human form.
His large-scale sculptures can take up to a month to complete. These larger pieces often depict *cangaceiros* (backland outlaws), dogs, and other figures.
The themes of his work reflect the local vegetation (*caatinga*), animals, human-like heads, religious figures (saints), and *cangaceiros*.
Luiz Benício has held the title of "Master" (*Mestre*) since 2006 and has participated in FeneArte since 2007. He received an award at the *Salão de Arte Religiosa* (Religious Art Salon) in 2016, and three awards at the *Salão de Arte Popular Ana Holanda* (Ana Holanda Folk Art Salon) in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
